What does the bible actually say about evangelism and soul winning?
Evangelism is one very important part of our Christian life that is often neglected. Evangelism is not just for the Evangelists or pastors alone, but is every believer’s responsibility. 2 Timothy 4:5
What is Evangelism / Evangelism in the Bible
Evangelism is the act of teaching, preaching, or telling someone or a group of people about the gospel of Christ, with the aim of persuading them in order to get them to conform with the terms of the gospel.
Evangelism also means sharing the gospel with someone or a group of people in order to convince them to join or otherwise accept it.

Evangelism or winning souls for the kingdom is not a choice but rather a command. It is not an option, but rather a necessity for every Child of God.
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
The purpose for evangelism is to bring the light of salvation to the unsaved, in order to bring them out from the darkness of this world. This is because God does not want any soul to perish. Therefore, he has given us the task of saving these souls by sharing the word that is able to translate them from darkness into light. Colossians 1:13
So it is our responsibility to tell them the benefits of the gospel. What they stand to gain should they agree and follow the terms of the gospel.
Someone may ask how do I evangelize or what do I really preach during evangelism? I’ll tell you how to do just that.

How to evangelize
There are several ways to do soul winning or evangelism. Below are some tips on how to evangelize effectively, whether it’s a personal or Street or collective evangelism.
- Share your testimony or someone else’s testimony –
A good example of this type of evangelism in the Bible is the Samaritan Woman. John 4:7-40. When the woman encountered Jesus, she quickly ran back into the city and called every one she could, sharing her encounter with Him.
The Bible says in verse 39 that many believed in Jesus because one woman went out and shared her testimony. Share your testimony of what the Lord has done for you. I was blind but now I can see is enough to bring a soul to Christ.
- Solve a problem –
There’s this saying that when you solve a person’s problem you can get them to do anything. Sometimes when we go out for evangelism or soul winning, you hear people say I’m hungry I can’t listen to anything you’re saying. When you find yourself in such situations, as little as you can provide, do it for them and you will get their full attention.
Even if it means paying their transport fare to the church, do it and it will definitely encourage them to come. Meet the needs in Their lives that you can, and then God will replenish you much more than you have spent. Because He is not a user of men but a rewarder of men.
- Be cheerful –
Yesterday we went out on evangelism in my church, when we got to the location we wanted to cover that day I took my fliers and I entered the street cheerfully smiling and full of joy, and everyone else went where they pleased, because it’s a pretty big area.
While I was busy sharing my fliers and talking with them cheerfully, a man said to me I will take your flier and listen to you because I just love the way you are full of joy and smiling this morning. You have to make them understand that there is joy in what you’re doing, and that joy is only given by the one you’re talking about.
Don’t bring your problems to the harvest field. It is when you forget your problems and do what God loves, that God will turn your problems into testimonies.
Rewards for winning souls / Evangelism
There are so many rewards for winning souls for Christ.
- Daniel 12:3 – And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
Soul winning makes you an ever shining star. It lightens, brightens, and colors every area of your life.
- Opens up Supernatural doors –
There are so many supernatural testimonies that I have seen heard on soul winning. One very striking one is that of a brother in my church (Living Faith Church Worldwide aka Winners Chapel). He said ” he lost his Job and business went down, and things became so bad that feeding himself and his family became a problem. The children had to drop out of school.
So he decided to work for God since he had heard several testimonies on soul winning. He took it seriously and started a personal outreach. Sometimes, he would would walk down from his house to the church, or stand on the road waiting for a free vehicle.
One day while he was busy trekking to the church while returning from evangelism, the Holy Spirit told him to get some used clothes to share for his souls along the road where he walked past. So he got some with the little he had. When he got home, he decided to check and arrange the clothes before giving them, and he felt a substance in the pockets of the one he was holding. When he brought it out, it was pure gold.
So he checked the others too, and a lot more came out. Then the Holy Spirit said to him again, go meet the man and ask him where he bought the clothes and buy from the person directly.
Somehow, he managed to get the clothes. This time he did not only see gold but also diamonds. By selling just part of the gold he was able to pay up all his debts and sent the kids back to school.
- You can ask for anything –
You want to get a quick response to your prayers and needs, win souls. In John 15:16, the bible says;
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. John 15:16
When you bring souls and establish them in the faith you have the right to ask for anything, and God will do it.
A brother once told God that for each soul he brings and establishes, God would give him one million naira. God agreed, and the work began. He said he brought the first soul, nurtured it, and followed it up until it was established in the faith, and boom he had a little business and a profit of one million naira came.
He went ahead and did the same again, and like previously another one miraculously came. Do you need something seriously, tie it to a soul and establish that soul in the faith and see how God will turn it around.
