3 Main Tips and Keys That will help you understand the Bible better.
Whether you are a beginner or novice, you want to know how to understand the Bible better, or tips that will help you understand the Bible, in just few minutes I’ll be sharing with you 3 Main tips that are really helpful for reading and understanding the bible better that I personally have used over the years that has greatly helped me.
Many years ago when I was still a teenager, a very close friend told me that I couldn’t quote five verses of the Bible excluding John 3:16.
It was so embarrassing because he said it in the midst of other friends. Though it was embarrassing but it was true. I wasn’t really one who took time to read the Bible then not even anybody in my house.
So with that anger I started reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. I would read more than 3 chapters from the old Testament and 2 or three from the New Testament every single day, and within one year i finished the whole Bible with nothing to show for.
So I started it all over again, and this time I read it backwards from Revelation to Genesis, but still nothing to show for, no light, no Rhema. Until I learnt these tips I’m about to share with you.

How To Understand The Bible For Beginners :
As a beginner, you need to understand that the bible is not a novel that you just pick up and read but the word of God is spirit and it is life and so you must approach it from the the spiritual point of view.
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
In order to understand and get the most out of the word of God as a beginner, you must believe in the Spirituality of the Word. You must understand that the word of God is not a novel or like any other book, you realize that the word of God is life, in it is your healing, deliverance, etc. It’s powerful and most especially it is spirit.
That was the mistake I made when I was starting out with the Bible. I was just reading because I wanted to prove a point. I didn’t know the Bible was far deeper than I thought.
Why Do We Need to Understand The Bible.
If you don’t understand the word of God that shows you who he is, his thoughts and promises concerning you then you can’t possibly understand God.
The Volume of God’s word in you determines your level of understanding of him, and it also determines your level of faith.
The Bible reveals him and his plans so it is important that we understand the Bible.
John 1:1 says; In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He is his Word and his Word is he, so if you don’t understand the word you don’t understand the purpose of your existence and the entire world. That’s why you need to understand the Bible.
Keys To Understanding The Bible:
The Bible though written in a plain English or in your own local language a lot of people still find it difficult to understand it. This is because the letters do not carry message but the spirit of God.
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. 2 Corinthians 3:6

Tips On How To Understand The Bible better
1. Pray for Understanding :
You cannot understand the Bible and Other Spiritual Books without the help of the Holy Spirit because it was the Spirit of God that Inspired them to write.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16
He is the only one who can open you up to the Rhema in the word. He is the author of scriptures. So whenever you pick up your Bible to read it is important that you first pray for understanding of the Holy Spirit. Tell him to give you an understanding heart and open up the mysteries and Rhema in the word you’re about to read before reading.
2. Listen
While reading, you need to keep your mind focused and your heart open to receive because he could talk to you directly from where you’re reading. He could be giving you a message but if you aren’t sensitive enough you won’t get the Rhema he is laying in your heart.
Sometimes he could be leading to read a particular passage from where he wants to speak to you that day. This happens to me often. Many times I would want to follow my Bible reading plan for that day, but while worshipping and praying before the reading he would tell me I want you to read this and that.
And I would leave my plan and go straight to the passage he asked me to read, before going back to my plan for that day either immediately or later that same day as I’m led. So you must be sensitive and keep your mind open even when you’re praying.
3. The Newness of the Word.

You must never approach the scriptures with familiarity. Oh, I know this passage very well, I can quote it from start to finish without even blinking my eyes. It’s good but the word of God is not a novel. It’s always new with new revelations, and interpretation each time you open it.
I read passages of the Bible that I had been reading but each time the Holy Spirit interprets them from a different light.
That’s why preachers are able to come up with new messages every day despite using the same version of the bible for many years because the word of God is always new.
Conclusion
Ask the Holy Spirit for Understanding each time you want to read the Bible. I pray God will reveal to you the mysteries of his Word to you in Jesus Name, Amen.
