Understanding spiritual authority, Teachings, meaning, and levels of spiritual authority.
Life is full of challenges. At one point in your life or the other you will encounter one challenge or the other, but we’ve been given power to overcome every form challenges. You have authority in Christ which was given to you at new birth (when you gave your life to Christ).
You’ve been given power over all principalities and powers, you have power over the kingdoms of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places because you are sitted with Christ in heavenly places.
What Is The Meaning of Spiritual Authority?
The spiritual authority of a believer is the right given to you by God to exercise or use the indwelling power that is within you. This power is the Spirit of God that dwells in you. The believer who knows how powerful he/she is, and acknowledges the authority he/she has in Christ is a big threat to the devil.
That’s why the devil feeds Believers with all manner of lies so they don’t know who they are in Christ. By doing so he’ll be able to get them to dance to his tunes.
You can only operate in the reality of this when you have an understanding of your spiritual authority in Christ. You must accept it, and believe in it for it to work for you.
There’s nothing in the kingdom that doesn’t require you to believe (have faith).
Exercising spiritual authority simply means taking charge or control over the situations of life. Not being overcome by situations, but Overcoming situations. That is, you’re not letting the situations weigh you, but you are exercising your rights as one who has been given power to overcome the situations, and coming out of those situations triumphantly.
Exercising or Walking in spiritual authority is knowing who you are in Christ, walking and operating in that consciousness.
How To Exercise Spiritual Authority
There are several challenges that are common with man. Since our adversary the devil is a roaring lion that is regularly looking for whom to devour (1 Peter 5:8), he always comes up with one trouble or the other. It is therefore necessary that you know who you are in Christ, and how to exercise your spiritual authority to stand against and resist the wiles of the devil.
We exercise our spiritual authority using the Keys to spiritual authority. The question then is what are these keys of spiritual authority?
4 Powerful Keys To Exercising Spiritual Authority
- Revelation: (light or knowledge)
The bible said in Psalms 82:6
"I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High"
You must understand who you are in Christ to be able to enjoy the benefits that comes with knowing who are.
It doesn’t stop at giving your life to Christ. Christ died for you for a reason, so you need to understand why He died for you, and also know the things He paid for. So you don’t keep suffering for what Christ already paid for.
Until you realize that you’ve been made more than a conqueror you can’t conquer. Get light, get knowledge. No wonder the bible said in Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
- Believe in the authority you have in Christ. (Faith)
Knowing it and not believing it is as good as not knowing it. Know who you are in Christ, believe it, and work in that consciousness.
- Your access to the name of Jesus Christ.
The name of Jesus Christ is greater than any other name. The name in it self Is authority, it’s power. Therefore access to that name that can make demons tremble is gold. The name of Jesus is a key to commanding the supernatural. Exercising spiritual authority using the name of Jesus is a weapon.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
- The Word of God:
God’s word is so powerful and sharper than any doubled edged sword, it pierces and divides soul and spirit asunder, and it’s a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
What a powerful weapon the Word of God is. It’s a key for spiritual exercise. It’s the Truth, and it’s only the truth you know that will set you free.
Ways of using the Word of God effectively:
- Know the word
- Receive it
- Believe it
- Act on the word
- Declare it boldly
- Prayer and Fasting:
There are some challenges in life that prayer alone won’t work for. You engage the altar of prayer and fasting. In Mark 9:29, we see the disciples of Jesus trying to exercise their spiritual authority when they were confronted with a situation but they couldn’t. This was because they didn’t believe in the authority given to them.
They probably felt we’re not Jesus, how are supposed to cast out this evil spirit. Secondly this kind of evil spirit needed them to engage the altar of prayer and fasting but they weren’t prepared for it. It is therefore necessary for you to understand the key needed for a particular situation.
- The blood of Jesus Christ
- Bold Declarations
Faith is paramount in exercising spiritual authority. No matter the key you’re operating with. Wether it’s through the name or blood of Jesus, the Word of God, Bold declaration, prayer and fasting etc. You need faith to activate them. Without faith nothing works. You must believe in the efficacy of your redemptive rights as a child of God.
