Ephesians 2: 8-9
American King James Version (AKJV) – 8. For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9. Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Amplified Bible (AMP) – 8. For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; 9. Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law’s demands], lest any man should boast. Reflection
God through his grace chose you and saved you, even when we were yet a sinner he loved us and died for us. We can only boast in Christ because all we are, all we have, and all we’ll ever be comes from him alone.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5
God doesn’t want you to boast about anything at all, not even holiness because none can truly be holy without the help of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Ghost in you that helps you live completely holy. That’s why the word says; not of works, that no one may boast;
